A point-based system to select immigrants is an approach based on scoring a set of observable determinants of productivity like age and education, which lead an immigrant applicant to qualify for permanent residence when a minimum threshold, set by the host country’s immigration authorities, is reached. This selection mechanism typically applies to economically-motivated immigration.
