Disasters of all types have profound impacts on human and animal health, economy and trade, and societies. Animals and animal-related issues are increasingly part of disaster management and risk reduction due to their economic, health and welfare, and social aspects. The OIE has taken a leadership role to identify the current state of disaster management and risk reduction processes and capacities by Veterinary Services of Member Countries and initiated a programme to provide guidelines and standards in the arena.
