Conservative feminists? : an exploration of feminist arguments in parliamentary debates of the Bundestag / Malliga Och

We still know very little about feminist policy adoption under conservative governments. Mazur (2002), in a meta-analysis of 27 cases of feminist policy adoption, found that the most common explanatory variables in feminist policy adoption were a combination of left-leaning governments and an egalitarian political culture. As a result, past studies have paid little attention to conservative parties when exploring feminist policy adoption and feminist claim-making. This, however, is unfortonate as several studies have shown that conservative women are ‘more likely to adopt a more progressive, liberal, and feminist position than their male peers’ (Celis and Childs, 2012).
